Skinflint: from an insider tip to a booming shopping experience

Geizhals.at, the German language predecessor of Skinflint, was originally developed as a hobby project in late 1996/early 1997. It soon gained popularity among tech-savvy Web users, reaching more than 1 million monthly page views in 1999 already. By the year 2000, it had attracted enough interest in the startup scene to be funded by VC investor e-Matrix and the newly founded "Preisvergleich Internet Services AG" took over its development.

In 2009, after reaching more than 66 million monthly page views and 2.2 million monthly unique clients in Austria and Germany alone (as measured by OEWA), the expansion into new markets began with skinflint.co.uk.

With its focus on high quality content and user-oriented features, Geizhals/Skinflint established a strong leadership in its home markets, especially among PC enthusiasts, while building a profitable online business and staying true to the original idea of providing a useful service to its users.
